About

Mormons believe in preserving history, but culture and circumstance have buried many marginalized stories. The GMLP is the mountain vault for gay stories in Mormonism — an archive of literature with LGBTQ+ Mormon characters and themes. With the help of our expanding community, we are compiling a database with a particular interest in literature written by Mormons, ex-Mormons, and Mormon-affiliates in the in-between. We hope to be a comprehensive resource for scholars, artists, and those seeking understanding.

Gay

No single word can capture everything that queerness means. We use “gay” as an umbrella term for queer or marginalized sexualities and genders including (but not limited to) lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, pansexual, asexual, non-binary, and queer.

Mormon

We use “Mormon” to refer to both The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the largest Mormon institution, and also the many off-shoots that make up the Mormon religious movement begun by Joseph Smith and stretching across the world.

Literature

By “literature” we mean any writing with artistic intent. Literature includes novels, short stories, personal essays, creative non-fiction, poetry, and plays. For inclusion in the archive, the work must be already published or, in the case of theatre, produced.
